Hi Everyone,

If you are the parent of a cadet, your participation in our Golf Outing on September 25th will keep our Club vital and responsive.  Your families are the future of our Club.  Please mail in your reservation today to attend the Golf Outing or Golf Outing Dinner.   We need more parents of Cadets attending.  As of today, most of our entries are Alumni Families.  Invite your friends to attend with you!   Thanks!  Carol Peterson

Dear Members

Welcome back to Michigan!  Hope everyone had a wonderful (whirlwind) time during Parents' Weekend and was able to spend some quality time with your son/daughter.

After the exciting win against South Dakota on Saturday, we know another successful season of Air Force football is underway.  And, because most of us cannot attend the games in person, we are, once again, hosting a football party where the USAFA Parents' Club of Eastern Michigan can watch and cheer as the Air Force Academy beats Navy!

This event is scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 12:00 noon kickoff. The place to be is: CJ's Brewing, (in the Compuware Arena) 14900 Beck Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170  We have invited the Navy Parents' Club of Michigan to join us for an afternoon of friendly rivalry.  We are also happy to announce that we will have a guest speaker at this event. As soon as those details are finalized, we will pass on that information.  Please see the attached flyer for all the details of this event---print it out and post it on your refrigerator so you don't forget!

This is one of two football events our Club hosts---the other is November 5 when Air Force takes on Army.  It's a relaxing, fun time.  Mark your calendar and join us this year.

GO AIR FORCE------BEAT NAVY!

To All SE Michigan USAFA Grads:

Marc Robinson (Class of 90) is reorganizing the Alumni Chapter in SE Michigan.  Marc's email is marcrob@umich.edu and his phone number is 734-788-5659.  Please give him an email or a call if you have any input and support his efforts.

Duff Smiley

Past-President

Great Lakes USAFA AOG Alumni Chapter

586-303-7332

email:  duffsmiley@gmail.com

I am attaching an email from Marc that will be of interest.

Dear Duff,

I recently met with a small group of grads and Stella Grayson from the USAFA AOG about re-energizing the Great Lakes Chapter of the AOG. I know that a lot of work was done by you over the last several years to keep the chapter going, and I volunteered to take over his efforts. I will travel to the Academy next week to get a handle on what needs to be done first.

I think that this is a great time to put effort into this. As you hopefully know, the University of Michigan will host Air Force for the first home game of the 2012 season.

I’ve been in contact also with the West Point AOG, and Tom Beierschmitt has been extremely generous and helpful in helping me focus on things that have worked for them. One of the first events we will have the privilege of sharing is the All Service Academy Golf Outing. Information is available here:  http://www.west-point.org/society/wps-michigan/golfouting.htm.

After I get back from Colorado Springs, I will have more information to share. Please let me know if you are interested in helping re-energize the chapter (I have a few names already). I know that many of you participated in a survey from the AOG about the kinds of activities you feel are important, and the AOG will share that with me next week.

I look forward to meeting and working with you all.

Best,

Marc Robinson, ’90

Dear Class of 2015,

Each year the incoming freshman class receives a book of knowledge, known as the Contrails, that they are required to memorize.  The book is color-coded to that particular year.  The Class of 2014 is red, the Class of 2015 is yellow.  Throughout the year, until recognition, the cadets are tested on information contained in this booklet in evening sessions called Knowledge Bowl.

Last year some cadets from the Class of 2014 put together this Youtube video describing, through their actions, how they actually prepare for these Knowledge Bowls.  It's a fun video I thought you would enjoy.

Dear Members:

It has come to our attention that information regarding Parents' Weekend may not be mailed home this year.  All information can be viewed and downloaded at the Academy's website under Parents' Weekend.

Parking passes, security information, etc., are available at this site.  It is noted that registration is not required, but it seems if you do register, you will receive emails updating you on the events and requirements of the weekend.  Please check it out and decide for yourself.

Also, for anyone who ordered a Michigan T-shirt, wear the T-shirt to the football game on Saturday.  We will be sitting together as a Michigan group.

If you have any questions, you can contact your class representative or any of the officers of the Club, who will be more than glad to help.
